Evelyn Alice Buchholtz Meiers, 85, formerly of Tipton, died peacefully with her family by her side Saturday night, April 15, 2017 at the Lutheran Homes Society, Muscatine, Iowa. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 20 at 10:30 AM, Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tipton. Burial will be following in the Tipton Masonic Cemetery. Visitation for Evelyn will be held on Wednesday, April 19th between the hours of 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm at Fry Funeral Home, Tipton. Evelyn was born on December 7, 1931 in Alta Vista, Iowa and was the daughter of Louie and Bess Machin Buchholtz. She graduated from Riceville High School in 1951. On August 30, 1964 Evelyn was united in marriage to Richard Alvis Meiers in Tipton, Iowa. Evelyn worked as a sales clerk and the Service Desk Manager for Walmart until her retirement in March of 1998. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Tipton.
Evelyn is survived by her daughter, Debra (Jim) Gerardy of Maquoketa, Iowa; her sons, Dennis (Shirley) Meiers of Port Byron, Illinois and Richard (Lisa) Meiers of Solon, Iowa; 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren; and her brother, Dean F. Buchholtz of Morris, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Richard Meiers and her sister, Rose Marie Miller.
To the family and friends of Evelyn Meiers, I would like to express my deepest and heartfelt condolences. I am truly sorry for the lost that your family is feeling. Experiencing the lost of a beloved family member is one of the hardest thing that any of us can go thru. And because of that my thoughts and prayers are with your family. During this extremly difficult time, please turn to God for comfort and support. He promise to give your family the strength needed in order to endure this great lost. (2 Corinthians 1:3,4) Something else that can bring your family comfort is cherishing the wonderful memories that you have of Mrs. Evelyn. So sorry to learn of Evelyn's passing. She was my first cousin, and have fond memories of our childhood. Remember her as "Tootie", an older cousin to be admired. Sincere sympathy to her family.
My time knowing Evelyn was only for a few years. We always managed to give one another a hard time and had lots of laughs. To Rich, my heart aches for you as I too am going through similar circumstances and know I am praying for you and your family!
