Our beloved Carolyn Belitz, age 86, went to be with her Lord on Thursday, April 28, 2022, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City surrounded by her loving family. Carolyn was born on December 7, 1935, to Herbert and Anna (Stolte) Hensch in Bennett, Iowa. A member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Bennett, Iowa from an early age, Carolyn participated in many activities at the church. Her faith was strong and carried her to her heavenly home. Carolyn attended Bennett Community School graduating in 1953. She participated in many activities including playing girls basketball, cheerleading, playing in the band as well as playing piano all of her life. Carolyn remained interested in sports and played in an women’s softball league in Tipton. She also loved to cook and especially loved to read and collect recipes, vowing to try each one someday. Carolyn met the love of her life, Ronald Belitz, and they were united in marriage on January 10, 1957, making their home in the Bennett/Tipton area and raising five children. Carolyn is survived by her husband of 65 years, Ronald Belitz; brother Howard (Jo) Hensch; children Beverly Tripp, Brenda Vacek, Brian Belitz, Bryce (Mary) Belitz, Bradley (Naoko) Belitz; grandchildren Ron (Lisa) Humphrey, Ryan (Kelley) Humphrey, Rachel (Rob) Salamo, Shawna (Glen) Wiebel, Stacy (Brad) Chapman, John (Debbie) Vacek, Nick Vacek, Timothy (Meagan) Belitz, Brian (Cortni) Belitz, Jacob Belitz, Sara (Eric) Blunt, Elizabeth (James) Good, Jason (Betty) Mann, Ethan Mann, Alisa Belitz and Mia Belitz; 25 great-grandchildren, nieces Vicky (Gerry) Schultz, Chris (Sid) Eckerman, Sheryl (Steve) Yerington and nephews Harold (Kathy) Hensch, Robert (Eva) Belitz and Mike (Gail) Hensch and John (Tracy) Hensch. Carolyn was preceded in death by her mother and father, in-laws Herman and Frieda Belitz, brother and sister-in-law Harold and Bonnie Hensch, a brother-in-law Elmer Belitz and sister-in-law Wilma Belitz, daughter-in-law Gloria Belitz, sons-in-law Ken Vacek and David Tripp, nieces Kay Chambliss and Becky Paustian, and nephews Joel Belitz and Mark Hensch. A visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Monday, May 2, 2022 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Tipton, Iowa. A funeral service will follow the visitation at 11:00. Burial will follow lunch at Inland Cemetery, Bennett, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, the family will distribute memorials to various local charities.
