Catherine Angerer Obituary

Catherine Lorraine Angerer, 81, passed quietly into eternity in the early morning of Sunday, August 16, 2020, at Cedar Manor Nursing Home, Tipton. Burial of her remains will be scheduled at a later date. In lieu of flowers, cards and memorials in her memory may be mailed c/o Candice Salisbury to 6 Hickory Grove Court, Davenport, Iowa 52804. You are invited to share memories and leave online condolences at www.fryfuneralhome.com.

Catherine, daughter of Henry and Valette (Shank) Angerer, was born on Wednesday, April 19, 1939 in Muscatine, Iowa. Catherine was born with severe mental challenges. Because of this fact, around age 9, she was taken out of her family home, was placed in the Cedar County Home and resided there until it’s closing in 2006. From there, Catherine lived for a short while at a nursing home in Washington, IA; but spent the majority of the remainder of her life living at Cedar Manor Nursing Home in Tipton.

Catherine had a sister eleven years her junior, that had been searching for her. In December, 2019, Catherine was found and in January, 2020, Catherine was able to be with her sister Candi, for the first time in 18 years. This was the one and only time Catherine was able to physically be with her newly reunited sister, because shortly after their first meeting, Covid virus restrictions only allowed them the opportunity to facetime each other.

For over 70 years, Catherine was dependent on the care and attention of all those who worked at the Cedar County Home and subsequent nursing homes; workers who’s love and dedication replaced and supplemented the same love and dedication family was unable to provide on a constant basis. Catherine’s life is an example of the importance of health care workers, for these are the people who give love and become family to our loved ones when they are unable to live at home or make a family of their own.

Catherine is survived by her sister, Candice Lee (Angerer) Salisbury, Davenport; two brothers, Clifford (Mary) Angerer, Bettendorf and Clyde Angerer, Des Moines.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Valette Angerer; Sisters, Charlene (Angerer) Long (1994) and Carol (Angerer) Swanson (2006).
