Jean Edler Obituary

Jean C. Edler, 86 of Tipton Iowa entered eternity on Easter Sunday, April 17, 2022 while being lovingly cared for at Prairie Hills in Tipton.
To honor Jean’s wishes, she was cremated and no visitation will be held.  Her Family will gather and honor her life at a private graveside service at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 7, 2022 at Monmouth Cemetery, Monmouth, IA.
Jean was born into this world as baby girl Dudley on May 17, 1935 in Iowa City.  She became Jean Carol Manning when she was lovingly chosen and adopted from the Iowa Soldiers Orphans Home in Davenport, Iowa by Elmer Manning and Alberta (Lafayette) Manning in November, 1936 at the age of 1 ½ years old.  She was raised on a farm in rural Jackson County.  She attended country school in the area and then graduated from Maquoketa Community High School.
After a brief marriage to Eddie Lewis, who died tragically in a vehicle accident, Jean   later married Gordon Edler.  Jean lived and worked in Freeport, Illinois for many years.  Jean and Gordon later divorced.
Jean had a very long office career, spanning over 40 years, working for Honeywell’s Micro Switch Division in Freeport, Illinois.  Some of her fondest memories were of the people she worked with and all the fun they had at work.  Jean’s hobbies were shopping, country music festivals, anything to do with cats and her many adventures with friends over the years.  She had amazing stories to tell and “nasty” jokes to anyone who would listen.  She was a lifetime fan club member to many old-time country music stars and participated in many of their events over the years in Nashville, TN.  She especially loved trips to the beach at Sanibel Island in Florida with friends and spending time searching for the perfect seashells to add to her collection.  Her greatest love was for her cat companions she had over the years, most recently being Honey and Missy.  Although, ice Cream was a close second to her cats, especially DQ heath blizzards.
After retirement and health issues, Jean’s family convinced her to move to Tipton. The family feels very lucky to have had “Aunt Jean” living closer and being a part of their lives these past 22 years.
Jean is survived by her nieces; Betty (Norman) Ellerhoff of Tipton IA, Brenda Connell of Burlington IA and Marilyn “Kitty” Hoffman of West Branch IA; Great Nephews-Adam (Rhiannon) Ellerhoff and their family and Scott Peters; Great Nieces-Stephanie (Dan) Walterman and their family, Amber (Seth) Talbot and their family, Tami (Derrick) Riley and their family, Taryn (Matt) McGuire and their family and Kelsey Hoffman.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Eddie Lewis, her brother Dale Manning, Sister-in-law Sarah Manning, niece Sarah Ann Manning and nephew-in-law Brian Hoffman.
The Family asks that cards and memorials be mailed to 303 E. 2nd Street, Tipton, IA 52772.  Memorials may be written to the Jean Edler memorial fund or you may make a donation to your favorite animal shelter in Jean’s memory.
