James F. Fields, 79, of Iowa City and formerly of Tipton, died peacefully in Mercy Hospital on Sunday, May 27, 2018. Family will receive friends at Fry Funeral Home in Tipton from 9:00 to 10:00am Friday, June 1st with memorial services to follow at 10:00am. Burial will take place in the Tipton Masonic Cemetery. Jim was born on January 21, 1939 in Tipton, Iowa to Forrest and Frieda Werling Fields. He graduated from Tipton High School in 1957 and married Carmen Ramsey in 1959. James graduated from the State College of Iowa (UNI) in 1963 with a BA in Education and then taught science and math for 3 years. He continued to pursue his love of education by receiving his Masters from the University of Iowa in 1967. He was a Junior High and High School Principal for 14 years and a Superintendent of schools for 24 years retiring in 2001. Jim and Carmen moved to Florida for 15 years to enjoy retirement. They played golf, cherished visits from family and friends and enjoyed sporting events. His children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were all the ‘apples of his eye’. He loved watching them grow up and become different individuals and succeed in their lives. They moved to Iowa City in 2016 to be near his beloved family and Hawkeyes.
Jim is survived by his wife, Carmen, daughter Shelley (Dave) Junck and Kevin (Heidi) Fields, Grandchildren Tyler Junck, Ashley (Jeremy) Hoppe, Adrianna Junck, Brittney (Bobby) Stroup, Allison Fields, Mackenzie Fields and Jack Fields; Great-grandchildren Emma and Olivia Stroup and Madyson and Maddox Hoppe, Sisters Carol Jean Fields and Ann Fields Edge and Brother Robert Fields. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Matthew; brothers, Henry Sr., John, Richard, and Keith; sister, Mary Jean and several nieces and nephews.
