Victor G. Robinson, 93, formerly of Mechanicsville, died peacefully at 7:45 am on Sunday, December 2, 2018 in the Clarence Nursing Home. Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at 10:30 am in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mechanicsville with Father Richard Okumo officiating. Burial and concluding services will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 4, 2018 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Fry Funeral Home, Tipton. A rosary service will be held at 3:30 pm prior to the start of the visitation. Online condolences may be shared at www.fryfuneralhome.com. A memorial fund in Victor’s memory will be donated to Camp Courageous. Pallbearers will be Brandon Robinson, Brett Mathews, Kyle Kuntz, David Wethington, Larry Robinson and Warren Wethington. Honorary pallbearers will be Wayne Robinson, Carl Robinson, Bill Robinson, Adam Robinson, David Robinson and Mark Wethington.
Victor was born on August 22, 1925 in Mechanicsville. He was one of seven children born to William Riley and Edith Ilsley Robinson. He attended Mechanicsville School and graduated with the Class of 1943. On August 13, 1946 Victor was united in marriage to Mary Jean Wethington in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mechanicsville. Together they raised four children, Cathryn, JoAnn, Steve and Alan. Victor and Mary were farmers most of their lives until Victor retired when he turned 70 years old. Victor was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church (Mechanicsville), Olin-Mechanicsville Lions Club, Past Board Member of the Clarence Co-op, Olin School Board, Jones County Cattleman’s Club, Jones County Pork Producers and served on the Board of Directors at Pioneer Terrace.
Those left to mourn his passing are his wife, Mary, of Clarence Senior Living, daughter, Cathryn and husband, James Matthews of Rock Falls, Illinois, sons, Steve and his wife, Kerin Robinson of Mechanicsville, Iowa and Alan and his wife, Lu Ann Robinson of Stanwood, Iowa; his sister, Corrine Betcher of Davenport, Iowa and his brother, Calvin and his wife, Frances Robinson of Mechanicsville, Iowa and Sister-in-law, Geraldine Robinson of Clarence Nursing Home, Iowa; grandchildren, Kristin Matthews, Brett Matthews, Jim Matthews, John Matthews, Kimberly Matthews, Brandon Robinson, Taryn Kuntz, Sheryl Tilton and Mike Boots; 13 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, JoAnn Robinson; siblings, Gorman (Fay) Robinson, Narvis (Genevieve) Robinson, Quentin (Dorothy) Robinson and Casper Robinson; Niece, Kris Oxley and his brother-in-law, Marvin Betcher.
