Agnes Townsend

May 17, 1903 — November 21, 2003

Agnes Maude Smith Townsend was born May 17, 1903, in Tipton, the daughter of Theodore and Ella Smith. Agnes attended country school. She graduated from Tipton High School in 1922. She took correspondence courses from Marycrest College and received her Teaching Certificate. She taught in Cedar and Scott County schools. She retired from Davenport School Stystem as a first grade teacher. She married Lewis Townsend on June 6, 1924. They resided in Tipton until moving to Davenport in the 1940's. Lewis preceded her in death in 1971. Agnes was a former member of the Davenport Education Association, Retired Teachers Association and the Unitarian Church. She is survived by many nieces and nephews. She also was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers.
