Alan was born on March 7, 1950 in Burlington, Iowa. He was the third child born to Aubrey (Aub) and Margaret (Peggy) Daedlow. Alan grew up in Mediapolis and graduated with the Class of 1968 from Mediapolis High School. Alan’s passion for numbers led him to the University of Iowa, where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting. His career as a Certified Public Accountant with Latta Harris in Tipton spanned many years until his retirement 14 years ago. Alan was united in marriage to Kathy Sue Bickford on May 28, 1976 in Iowa City. He was a member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tipton where he faithfully shared his gifted musical talents as the church organist. Appropriately, he also served on the church’s worship committee and held the role of church treasurer—a testament to his unwavering commitment. In addition, Alan was a member of Tipton Chamber of Commerce, Optimist Club and a board member for the Friends of the Animals.
Alan was a lot of things. Alan was a loving, devoted husband, of 48-years, to his wife, Kathy. He was a proud father of his three children, Michelle, Ryan and Nate, and cherished each and every one of his grandkids and great-grandkids. Alan was a talented musician, playing songs on the organ and piano by ear. He loved golf, history, comedy, sweets, animals, the Iowa Hawkeyes, and family vacations in the north woods in St Germain, WI. Most importantly, Alan loved the Lord and raised his children to serve and honor God. He will be missed terribly, but he will be remembered for his meticulous attention to detail, his tender-loving and forgiving heart, and the joy he brought to the ones he loved.
Alan is survived by his wife, Kathy; his children, Michelle (Chad) Zear, Ryan (Dionne) Daedlow, and Nathan (Emily) Daedlow; grandchildren, Keaton (Brittney) Segebart, Collin Zear, Kolton Segebart, Keaton Zear, Preston Daedlow, Paityn Daedlow, Kaeden Zear, Payson Daedlow, Irie Daedlow and River Daedlow; great-grandchildren, Carson Segebart, Avery Segebart, Jacob Segebart and Landon Segebart; sister-in-law, Mary Daedlow; one nephew and multiple nieces.
Alan has now been reunited with those who went before: his parents, Aub and Peggy Daedlow; brother, Dennis Daedlow; and his sister, Dianne K. (Dee Dee) Appell.
