Listen to Obituary

Angie was born on October 11, 1927 in rural Tipton, to William Fordice Hamilton and Freida Elizabeth Rixe. She spent her first years at home, and during the depression made her home with Frank and Eliza (Dierks) Winter, relatives on her mother's side of the family. She grew up near her mother, with the rest of her family just down the street. Angie attended Tipton Community Schools, and graduated from THS in 1945. She was united in marriage to Lee McQuillen on July 14, 1946. Together they operated Tipton Cleaners, becoming owners in 1965. Angie excelled as a seamstress, and did alterations for local clothing stores. She enjoyed Scrabble, cards, crossword puzzles, and was accomplished at needlepoint. She enjoyed the outdoors, her flower gardens, all kinds of music, and following the University of Iowa sports teams and the Chicago Cubs. She always enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and she spent many long summer days at the family cabin in Cedar Bluff. She spent her last years among friends at Tipton Senior Park, where she enjoyed her great view of the outdoors and the farm fields east of town. Angie is survived by her children: Bruce Lee, of Effingham, IL; Bradley Keith (Cheryl Krall) of Shawnee, KS; and Beth Ann (Robert deBlois) of Iowa City. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Deirdre K. McQuillen, Nathan L. McQuillen, Meghan J.(Jamison) Herdrich, Joseph R. McQuillen, Eliza K. Ahrens, William F. deBlois, and great granddaughter Madelynn Marie Herdrich. Also surviving are her sister Hazel (Ralph) Andresen, brothers Gene Edward (Rosemary), and Maynard Hamilton, and many nieces and nephews. Angie was preceded in death by her husband Lee, her parents, the Winter family, her brothers Dale and William Hamilton, sisters Grace(Cyril) Olsen, Doris (Haven) Hines, and Rosalie Rhodes. Visitation for Angie will be on Friday November 20th from 3:00pm to 6:00pm at Fry Funeral Home in Tipton. Memorial funds will be distributed to one of Angie's favorite charities. The family wishes to acknowledge the outstanding and compassionate care she received at Cedar Manor and through the many employees of Hospice of Iowa City. May she rest in peace.
