Bernard Joseph Kline

Bernard Joseph Kline, 80, lost his battle with cancer on Sunday, September 15, 2013 at his home in Bennett, IA. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, September 20, 2013 at 4:00pm at The Bennett American Legion followed by a Celebration of his Life until 7:00pm. Barney was born on April 5, 1933 in Ames IA. He is the son of Matthew & Ethyl Cook Kline. Barney spent much of his life in the LeClaire/Tipton/Bennett areas. Barney served in the U.S. Navy and was active in the Korean War. He worked over the years as a Truck Driver, in road construction, and retired from North Star Steel. In his retirement years he delivered Winnebago's and worked part time at Liqui Grow. Barney is a member of the Bettendorf VFW and the Bennett American Legion Post #104. Barney was united in marriage to Kay (Paulson)Beck on September 9, 1978 and they recently celebrated 35 years together. He is survived by his wife, Kay, children; Amy(Lavern) Cole of Bennett, Jeff Beck of Bakersfield CA, Cindy(Tom) Doermann of Tipton, Lori(Jeff) Nelson of Salem OR and step-daughter Linda(John) Garcia of Rapid City, IL; 11 grandchildren, Jason & Brad Wurr, Jared & Colby Smith, Emily Nelson, Chase, Jacob, Ethan & Collin Cole and Zach & Taylor Doermann; special honorary granddaughter, his little peanut, Lexi Miller; step-grandchildren, Kelly, Anthony, Traci, Melodi, Jack and Jolie; several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; two brothers; Charles Kline of West Minster CO, and Jerry Kline of Rapid City SD. He also had several step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Pat Gapinsksi, step-sons, Jack McCutcheon and John McCutcheon and great granddaughter, Chelsea Royer. Barney dearly loved spending time with his grandchildren, tinkering in his garage, gardening, and traveling. He was the master of fixing every bicycle and loved fishing, fishing and more fishing. Memorials can be made to Iowa Hospice or The American Bennett Legion #104.
