Bernice Helen Paul was born on December 20, 1907, the daughter of Henry and Fannie Paul. She was born on a farm in Carthage, Illinois. As a child Bernice and her family moved to Rochester, Iowa and she resided in Cedar County all her life. Tudy attended country school at PEEDEE Country School while growing up. On December 24, 1925, Tudy was united in marriage to Abner Petersen in Tipton, Iowa. Tudy enjoyed gardening and was known to care for wounded animals. She liked to crochet and play cards, like Euchre and 500. Tudy was a member of the Tipton Federated Garden Club and in 1999 she became a State Life member of the Garden Club. She received awards at the State level for her excellence in plant beautification and horticulture. Tudy is survived by her daughter, Henrietta Ditter" Fields and her husband Keith of Tipton Iowa; grandchildren Mark Petersen and wife Donna of Iowa City Iowa Debbie Boddicker and husband Gary of Phillipsburg New Jersey Jeff Fields and Jennie Schroeder and husband Craig of Tipton Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents Henry and Fannie Paul; her son Dewey in 2006; a grandson Dennis; sisters Mildred Reinhart Mabel and Francis; and brothers Cecil and Raymond. Memorials may be made to Cedar Manor or the Garden Club."
