Bernita Carolyn Walker-Pruess, 91, of Tipton, passed away Saturday, June 18, 2016 at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, June 25, 11:00 am, with one hour of visitation beginning at 10:00 am, at the First United Church of Christ. Inurnment will be held at a later date. Online condolences may be shared at www.fryfuneralhome.com. Bernita was born on December 30, 1924 in Clarence, Iowa to Arnold and Katie (Schweiter) Meier. She attended and graduated from Clarence High School and then attended Iowa State University for 4 years, obtaining her Bachelor's in homemaking. Bernita was a teacher in Olin for 26 years and was also the counties representative for the Education Association. United in marriage to the late Morris Walker, they were blessed with 2 children: Carolyn and Morris Jr. Along with teaching and traveling abroad with numerous organizations, Bernita also enjoyed being a homemaker. In August 16, 2012, Bernita was re-married to Robert Pruess at the Little Brown Church. She was a member of the Tri Sigmas (president in 1992), G.F.W.C., Friendship Force of Cedar Rapids and Iowa City, Iowa Partners of the Americas, Women's Fellowship, Tipton Lions Club and First United Church of Christ. Bernita will be missed by her family, friends and the many acquaintances she met in her travels. Surviving Bernita are her husband, Bob; daughter, Carolyn (Barry) Anderson; grandchildren, Dustin, Kirk and Clinton; 6 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Bernita was preceded in death by her first husband Morris; son, Morris Walker Jr; sisters, Evelyn Fisher and Marcella Soper.
