Beulah Dodds

December 31, 1969 — December 24, 2003

Beulah Ardella Dodds was born December 30, 1898, at the home of her parents, Harry and Alice Mayer Dodds. She was raised on her parent's farm in Cedar County, Cass Township. She was educated in Country School Cass #1, where she finished school with the 8th grade. She later took a short business course. Beulah was baptized on December 16, 1923, and became a member of the New Olivet Presbyterian Church and later in 1963, changed her membership to the First United Church of Christ in Tipton. When Farm Bureau and the Extension Service came to Cedar County, she was County Chairwoman for 3 years. In 1928, she organized a girls 4-H Club in Cass and Linn Townships and named it Sunshine Circle. For 15 years she was the leader of 75, 4-H girls. She moved to Iowa City in 1945 and for 9 years worked at a dress ship in charge of the alteration department. She then moved back to Tipton and for 16 years worked as a receptionist for Dr. Nuccio while helping her mother. After her mother passed away, she did alterations in her home and also for clothing stores. Due to failing vision she gave up sewing in the mid 90's. Beulah enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, the Tipton Business and Professional Woman' s Club and Ruth's Circle of the First United Church of Christ in Tipton. She was a long time member of Farm Bureau and a woman's homemaker group. Her greatest interests were her brother and sisters and their families. Her hobbies were doing crafts and sewing. In particular she enjoyed the doll clothes she made for family, which they still have and cherish.
