Beverly Joan Bixby, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2007, in her home with family at her side. A private memorial with internment will be at a later date. Born in 1926 to Paul and Betty Garrett of Eddyville, Iowa, she married Gordon Kirk Bixby in 1944, who preceded her in death. In 1959, Joan and Kirk moved to Tipton, where they owned and operated the Maid-Rite Cafe and Motel for 10 years. They later owned and operated the Tipton Dairy Queen for several years. Joan and Kirk were responsible for establishing the Cub Scouts program in Tipton in 1960. She was also a member ot T.T.T. Society for many years and a amember of the UCC Womens group. She worked as a dentist assistant for Dr. Kermit Pfeifle and a sales clerk for the DeKock Drug store for several years. Joan and Kirk enjoyed many family fishing trips at the Gold Pines camp in Ontario, Canada. They also enjoyed house boating on the Mississippi River at Guttenberg and winter vacationing in Mexico and South Padre Island, Texas. Survivors include Pat and wife, Peg of Tipton and their daughters, Stephanie of Tipton and Becky Anderson and husband, Marshall with their daughter, Hannah and son, Ethan living in Grand Prairie, Texas; Chris and wife, Susan of Corpus Christi, Texas; Tim and wife, Gail with their sons, Benjamin of Roseville, California and Jeremy in the U.S. Navy, stationed on the USS Carter Hall, at Little Creek, Virginia, and some special nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers the family suggests a memorial to St. Lukes Hospice of Cedar Rapids and the Cancer Society.
