Updated service for Brenda: Visitation will be held from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at Fry Funeral Home in Tipton.

Brenda L. Funston, 65, formerly of Tipton and Iowa City, entered the fullness of eternal life on June 25, 2026, while under the care of Birkwood Village in Fort Madison.

Brenda was born on August 20, 1960, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, the daughter of Dwayne F. Stepanek and Myrta Jane Nicholas Stepanek. She grew up in the West Branch area and graduated from West Branch High School in 1978.

Throughout her life, Brenda held several different occupations, including working for many years as a dispatcher for the Cedar County Sheriff’s Office. She also worked as a nurse’s aide and found joy in helping others through her work.

Brenda enjoyed the simple pleasures in life. She loved to crochet, watch NASCAR races, and follow the local racing scene. Sweet, fun-loving, and considerate of others, Brenda shared an especially close relationship with her mother. The two shared a special bond that remained an important part of Brenda’s life even as the miles between them grew.

While living in Iowa City, Brenda became a member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses congregation. Her faith became an important part of her life and brought her comfort and peace throughout the years.

Brenda is survived by her parents, Dwayne (Sandy) Stepanek and Myrta (Stan Woode) Stepanek; her brothers, Jerry Stepanek and Curt (Jamie) Woode; her niece and nephew, Jazmine and Brady Woode; her aunt, Shirley Lenz; her uncle, Buddy Nicholas; and several cousins and extended family members.

Brenda will be remembered by those who knew and loved her for her sweet nature, fun-loving spirit, and the kindness and consideration she showed to others.

Visitation will be held from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at Fry Funeral Home in Tipton.
