Listen to Obituary

Bruce Allen Flory, 63, of Marion, formerly of Tipton, passed away unexpectedly at his home on November 30, 2025.

Bruce was born July 5, 1962, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the third son of Elmer Glen Flory and Mary Cuba (Maynor) Flory. Alongside his brothers Hobert, David, and Wayne, Bruce grew up in Tipton, sharing the bond of hard work and family responsibility. Together they helped their father with appliance deliveries, mowed dozens of lawns, and delivered newspapers—always rising before dawn to get the job done. Bruce carried that early-riser habit throughout his life. He was a newspaper carrier for the Quad City Times for seven years in the 1970s.

The Flory family were members of Tipton’s First United Methodist Church, where they faithfully attended while the boys were growing up. Bruce graduated from Tipton High School, where he learned to play the tuba, a talent he enjoyed for years. He went on to earn his AA in Accounting from Kirkwood Community College and worked in the Payroll Department at Rockwell Collins, where his precision and reliability made him a valued employee.

Bruce was a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan—loyal through every season. He loved sports of all kinds, especially Tipton athletics and summer baseball programs, and delighted in tracking statistics and participating in local high school football prediction contests. He also enjoyed collecting baseball cards and coins, building extensive collections over the years.

Community-minded, Bruce served as treasurer of his homeowners’ association, managing its finances by hand with meticulous care. He was known for his humor, often calling family members on their birthdays to sing an off-key but heartfelt “Happy Birthday.” He loved making memories and bringing laughter to those around him.

Though he faced health challenges in recent years, Bruce remained determined to live fully. He treasured a trip to California to visit his brother and explore Yosemite, and he continued to enjoy time with family, especially his mother, Cuba, whom he faithfully accompanied on errands and outings. His devotion to her was constant.

Bruce is survived by his mother, Cuba Flory; brothers Hobert (Terry) Flory, David Flory (Carol Foster), and Wayne (Jill) Flory; and many extended family members and friends who will miss his humor, loyalty, and love. He was preceded in death by his father, Elmer Flory; and nephew, Chad Flory.

Visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 6, at Fry Funeral Home in Tipton, followed by a Celebration of Life at 11:00 a.m. Burial will take place at a later date at Red Oak Cemetery. Online condolences may be shared at www.fryfuneralhome.com. Memorials may be made to the Tipton Summer Recreation Programs in Bruce’s honor.
