Carolyn was born March 14, 1964 in Fairfax, Virginia, daughter of Richard and Evelyn (Bennett) Carpenter. Carolyn graduated from Carroll High School, Carroll, Iowa and then attended the University of Iowa before graduating from Kirkwood College with an associate's degree in nursing. Carolyn was a woman with many passions, including playing the piano and saxophone, gardening and canning, dancing, and entertaining, just to name a few. Her greatest passion, however, was her children, John Thomas and Sara Elizabeth. From coaching Sara's 6th grade softball team, to organizing meals for John's football team, to hosting summer getaways at the farm for their classmates, Carolyn truly valued every aspect of being a mother. Carolyn is survived by her parents, Richard Carpenter of Ft. Myer, Florida and Evelyn Carpenter of Madison County, VA; husband Tom Crowley, son John Crowley, and daughter Sara Crowley of Tipton, IA; sisters Amy (Daryl) Johnson of Wayzata, MN and Jennifer (Reggie) West of Chester, VA; and brother, Jeffrey Carpenter of Carroll, IA.
