Charles "Chuck" Eugene Sterner Jr, 64, of Atalissa passed away Sunday, January 8, 2017 at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City. Visitation will be Saturday, January 14, 2017 at Fry Funeral Home, Tipton, from 9:00-10:00 am, with a memorial service to immediately follow. Inurnment will be held at a later date. Chuck was born in Muscatine, Iowa on January 16, 1952 to Charles and Shirley (Sander) Sterner Sr. He attended Wilton and Washington School before graduating from Bettendorf High School. Chuck proudly served his country in the United States Army as a paratrooper; earning a National Defense Service Medal Parachute Badge and Honorable discharge. He was united in marriage to Julie Bishop in Wilton on June 8, 1974. They have resided in Atalissa area for the past 42 years. Chuck was employed most recently as a welder at Wilton Precision Steel, before health conditions forced him to take an early retirement. Other places of employment include Louis Rich, JI Case, Cummings Mfg. and S&C Machining. Surviving Chuck are his wife, daughter, Deja Sterner of Lowden; sister Sally Crawford of Iowa City; grandchildren, Caitlin, Caleb, Chacey, Codi and Jakota; great-grandchildren, Bently and Melody; step-sisters, Sharon (Gerald) Green of Muscatine, Carol (Ken) Bult of Portage, IN, Dorothy (Carrol) VanDyne of Unionville, MO; step-brother Eugene Morrison of Andalusia, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents and step- sister, Eugenia Morrison.
