Charles Lyle Ripley

Charles (Charlie) L. Ripley, 78, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of the New Liberty and Bennett area, died peacefully Sunday morning in Northbrook Manor Nursing Home, Cedar Rapids. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 26, 2012, 10:30 am, Peace Church of Christ United, Bennett. Burial will be in the Inland Cemetery with military rites. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00 - 7:00 pm at Fry Funeral Home, Tipton. A memorial fund has been created in Charles' memory with proceeds to Peace Church or the Bennett Ambulance. . Charlie was born on March 23, 1933 in Rock Island, Illinois to Lyle and Myrna Mayhew Ripley. Charlie graduated from Joy High School in Joy, Illinois and served his country in the US Army. On July 29, 1953 Charlie was united in marriage to Marcelia (Marcie) J. Wagner in Joy, Illinois. He was employed by American Telephone and Telegraph until his retirement in 1990. Charlie and Marcie lived in the New Liberty area until they moved to Marion to be near family. Charlie is survived by his wife, Marcie, of Marion, Iowa; sons, Dan (Lisa) Ripley of Hiawatha, Iowa, Brian (Jean) Ripley of Webster City, Iowa, Richard (Connie) Ripley of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; sisters, Carol (Roger) Kiddoo of Joy, Illinois and Donna (Sherman) Kanagy of North Charleston, S.C.; brother, David (Gwen) Ripley of Sebring, Florida; and 6 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. Charlie was a member of the Peace Church of Christ United in Bennett, the Tele Pioneers, the Bennett American Legion Post and the NRA. He enjoyed traveling and woodworking.
