Charles 'Hans' Vernon Luettjohann

Charles 'Hans' Vernon Luettjohann, 88, of Tipton, passed away on Friday, February 12, 2016 at Belle Plaine Specialty Care Center. Visitation will be held on Monday, February 15th from 4:00-7:00 pm, Fry Funeral Home, Tipton. Funeral Services will be Tuesday, February 16th at 10:30 am also at Fry Funeral Home. Charles was born in Iowa City, Iowa on February 28, 1927 to Fred and Minnie Luettjohann and Robert Bolton. He attended school in Mount Vernon and joined the U.S. Navy in 1944 when he was just 16 years of age. Charles served our country for two years during World War II. In 1950, he married the love of his life, the late, Mary Baker in Tipton. Together they raised 2 children: Sandy and Deb. Charles' employment, after being home from the U.S. Navy, began with the U.A.W. in Chicago and Cedar Rapids as a carpenter before joining International Harvester in East Moline as a Mill Rite and Union Steward. He was also a current member of the Tipton V.F.W. For enjoyment, Charles loved to golf and bowl, fish and deer hunt, host big fish fry parties and drink beer with his VFW buddies. Charles is survived by his two daughters: Sandy (Dave) Petersen of Blairstown and Deb Schwitzer (Scott Meumann) of Tipton; 4 grandchildren, Kim (Jim) Lang of Nichols; Ryan Roszell of Hills; McKenzie Schwitzer of New York and Myles Schwitzer of Cedar Rapids; 3 great grandchildren, Cody Martin of Iowa City; Alexis Martin of Iowa City, Nevaeh Trimble Roszell of Tiffin and his 4 Furbies; Izz, Marly, Charlie and Daisy. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and brothers, Don and Delmar.
