A Celebration of Life in honor of Chris Urmie will be held at Whitetails Saloon on Sunday January 11th at noon.  A pool tournament will begin at 1pm, honoring what Chris loved to do.

Christopher Abraham Urmie, 57, of Stanwood, Iowa, passed away peacefully at home on December 21, 2025, after courageously battling cancer for nearly five years. Born on March 12, 1968, in Davenport, Iowa, Chris carried a spirit of positivity, humor, and warmth that left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

For many years, Chris worked in the construction industry and took great pride in his craft. He loved being on the jobsite, especially the challenge and freedom of climbing high into the rafters. Even after illness forced him to step away from the work he loved, he never lost his deep appreciation for building, creating, and working with his hands.

Chris shared his life with his beloved partner, Nancy Gagner, for the past ten years. They built a home and a life together, supporting one another through every joy and every hardship. Their bond was one of deep companionship, laughter, and unwavering devotion.

Known for his vibrant personality, Chris brought light and laughter wherever he went. He enjoyed playing pool, fishing, flying kites, dancing with Nancy, and listening to music that spoke to his soul. He also had a tender love for poetry and often shared his own heartfelt lines. His favorite saying, “Maybe tomorrow,” reflected the optimism and gentle resilience that defined him.

In the days before his passing, Chris was able to spend meaningful time with all of his children — moments that brought him profound comfort and joy.

Chris is survived by his sons, Jacob Urmie and Ashton Urmie; his daughter, Calista Urmie; his mother, Margaret “Marge” Urmie; his partner, Nancy Gagner; and his siblings: Paul (Joyce) Urmie, Rick (Joanne) Urmie, Matt Urmie, Jan (Dick) Spies, Heather (Stan) Syring, and Amanda Urmie. He was preceded in death by his father, Michael Urmie. He leaves behind a legacy of love, connection, and countless friendships built over a lifetime.

A private family visitation will be held at Fry Funeral Home. Chris will be cremated, and a Celebration of Life will take place at a later date, where family and friends will gather to honor a life filled with laughter, love, and unwavering positivity.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to a local charity of choice that reflects Chris’s generous spirit. Online condolences may be shared at www.fryfuneralhome.com.

“Time Will Tell”

By Christopher A. Urmie

Well-O Well

I have to “say”

I never thought

This would come MY way.

How a disease would come

and take me away.

I can’t say goodbye.

I can only say so long.

Till we all meet again – will sing

The OLD CROW SONG.
