Danny was born on July 18, 1940, in Davenport, Iowa, to Charles F. Hamann and Alice A. Sothman Krohn. He attended Bennett Community School, and on April 8, 1961, he married the love of his life, Jerilyn Kay Koch, in Lowden, Iowa.
Together, Danny and Mag made their home in Bennett for 65 years, where they raised their three children, Debra, Trisha, and Lee. Their life together was built on love, family, friendship, and the community they called home.
Danny was a man who believed in helping others and never hesitated to answer the call when someone was in need. Beginning in 1962, he dedicated more than 50 years of service to the Bennett Ambulance and Fire Department. His commitment to his community was never about recognition or praise. It was simply who he was. He was a true community servant who gave generously of his time and himself, always putting the needs of others before his own.
Throughout his working years, Danny owned several service stations before eventually retiring from Caterpillar. Retirement, however, did not mean slowing down. He continued serving his community as part of the Bennett Ambulance, Fire Department, and Bennett Community Club. One of the greatest joys of Danny's life was driving the Bennett school bus, where he built special connections with generations of children and became part of so many cherished childhood memories.
Whether behind the wheel of an ambulance, a fire truck, a school bus, or simply lending a helping hand, Danny always found a way to make a difference. Wherever there was a need, that was where you would find him.
Danny had a way of leaving an impression on everyone he met. Even a brief encounter could become a lasting memory. From the youngest children who rode his school bus to the friends and fellow volunteers he served alongside, Danny touched countless lives through his kindness, humor, generosity, and willingness to help.
He never needed recognition for what he did. If someone needed him, he showed up. That was Danny, and that is the legacy he leaves behind.
Danny is survived by his loving wife, Mag; his children, Debra Barker (Gus), Trisha Breunig (Todd Stroup), and Lee Hamann (Patty); five grandchildren, Josh (Sheyanne), Michael, Rachel Breunig, Jordyn Edwards (Nolan), and Emilee Hamann (Logan); two step-grandchildren, Jamie and Matt Barker (Adrian); six great-grandchildren; his sister, Darlene Hamann, sister-in-law Mary Pat Allmandinger; and extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Steve, his sister, Deanna, brother-in-law Roland Hambright, and brother-in-law Wayne Hamann.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Prairie Hills Tipton, Clarence Senior Living, and Suncrest Hospice, especially Stephanie, Haley, Brandy, Allison, Kyle, Amber, Kaylyn, and Caitlin, for the exceptional care, compassion, and love they showed Danny.
Thank you all for caring for him as if he were your own Grandpa. Your kindness, dedication, and the love you shared brought comfort not only to him, but also to Mag and our entire family. We will forever be grateful for the special place you each hold in his final chapter.
For more than 50 years, Danny answered the call to help others. He showed up in the middle of the night, in times of uncertainty, in moments of need, and whenever his community needed him. He gave his time, his heart, and so much of himself without ever asking for anything in return.
Although Danny has answered his final call, the impact of his life will continue through the generations of people he helped, the children he guided, the friendships he built, and the family he loved.
Bennett has lost one of its own, but the legacy Danny leaves behind will never be forgotten.
