Listen to Obituary

Delores Elizabeth Rohlf peacefully passed away November 29, 2025, at Wheatland Manor, Wheatland, IA. Delores, born February 21, 1929, was the daughter of Carl F. and Amelia (Grell) Hillmann of Wheatland, also known as the Limerick neighborhood.

She graduated from Wheatland High School, where she was a member of the girls' basketball team. After graduation, she attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls and earned her teaching certificate. Delores taught at Wischman country school south of Lowden until her marriage.

On April 3, 1948, Delores was united in marriage to Eugene W. Rohlf in Wheatland. Together they farmed north of Bennett, where she actively participated in all aspects of farm life, which she dearly loved. Later, she continued helping her son by bringing lunch to the field every day—sometimes with a full menu of roast beef, mashed potatoes, and pie! During this time, they raised two children, Patricia and James (Jim). Jim’s family continues the Rohlf farming tradition.

Delores was involved in many clubs and organizations. She was a member of the Scott County Genealogy Group and published numerous books filled with stories and illustrations from both sides of her family. These collections continue to be studied by younger generations interested in their heritage. She was a member of the UCC church in Tipton, a former board member of the Cedar County Historical Society, ASHS, Cedar County Child Conservation, a lifetime member of the WWI Auxiliary, and a member of the local Red Hat group.

Delores loved music. For over 20 years, she organized and played in the Cedar Ramblers with Roland Fox, Mildred Riedesel, Clarence Hartwig, and occasionally her daughter Patsy on accordion. Their old-time hymns and songs brought joy to nursing homes and the wider community. She also loved golfing and was a gifted photographer, earning multiple ribbons at the Cedar County Fair for her work. Her dedication, sincerity, and humor will be remembered by all who knew her. She deeply loved her family and cherished time spent with them, especially during holidays and special events.

Delores is survived by her daughter, Patricia (Bill) Barglof, and their children, Mark (Betsy) Barglof and Dr. Erika (Patrick) Peddicord; great-grandchildren, Jacob, Ryan and Rachel Barglof, and Siena and Lucas Peddicord; daughter-in-law, Karen (Peters) Rohlf and her children, Jason Rohlf and his fiancée Emily, and Jamie (Justin) Holeman and their children, Olin and Amelia; sister-in-law, Sue Hillmann; and many nieces and nephews whom she cherished like her own children.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene; her son, James Rohlf (August 2025); her brother, Paul Hillmann and his wife Margaret (Peg); her brother Louis Hillmann; and her parents, Carl and Amelia Hillmann.

Visitation will be held Friday, December 5, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m., with a luncheon immediately after, all at First United Church of Christ in Tipton. Burial will follow the luncheon at Tipton Masonic Cemetery.

Delores had specific ideas for how she wanted her memorial funds to be used, and a fund in her name has been established for her family to carry out those wishes. Online condolences may be shared at www.fryfuneralhome.com.
