Don went to his eternal rest on April 30, 2024. Visitation for Don will be held at the Fry Funeral Home in Tipton, Iowa on Friday May 3 from 4-7 PM. There will be a funeral service on May 4 at 1 00 PM at the Fry Funeral Home in which all friends and family are welcome. The family is requesting that no flowers be sent and that any desired donations to be made on behalf of Don and directed to the Cedar Manor Nursing Home, Tipton, Iowa. Don passed away peacefully at the Cedar Manor Nursing Home in Tipton, Iowa with a family member by his side. Don was born March 29, 1935 on a farm NW of Earling, Iowa to Perley and Loretta (Albers) Rosenow. The family moved to a farm east of Persia, Iowa where he attended Country School until his family moved to Tennant, Iowa in 1943. Don graduated from Tennant High School in 1953. He worked for farmers during his high school years and his favorite sport was Basketball. He was selected for the All-County Basketball Team as a Sophomore and was offered a Basketball Scholarship to Simpson College upon his High School Graduation. He was also honored by one of his fellow Tennant Alumni to have been selected as one of the top all-time 5 best Basketball Players to have played for the Tennant High School.
In the fall of 1953 Don went to work for the City of Harlan, Iowa as a meter reader. In 1954 he became a water plant operator for the City of Harlan. On July 1, 1958 he began to work for the City of Tipton, Iowa as both a meter reader and apprentice lineman. In May of 1966 he became the Electrical Superintendent for the City of Tipton and retired from this job on October 1, 1994 after spending 41 years in public service.
In April of 1954 a close friend talked Don into going on a blind date and this is where he met a pretty and loving girl named Lois Gau from Portsmouth, Iowa. They were united in Marriage on December 7, 1956 at the Resurrection Catholic Church in Chicago, Illinois. To this union 3 children were born: Cindy, Craig, and Carol.
Upon retirement Don enjoyed Farming on his Farm SW of Tipton and raising stock cows. His favorite breed was Black Angus. He retired from this Operation at the age of 85 and his son took over the farming. He enjoyed Family, Farming, Fishing, Hunting, and Vacationing in Tuscon, Arizona during the Winter.
He was preceded in death by his Father in 1984, his Mother (age 103) in 2010; younger brother Kenneth (Nick) Rosenow and his wife Mildred of Shelby, Iowa; his sister Marjorie Kramer and her husband Robert of Harlan, Iowa; and his In-Laws Dick and Hazel Gau of Portsmouth, Iowa.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years Lois, one son Craig Rosenow of Bourbonnais, Illinois; two daughters Cindy (Kevin) Licht of Tipton, Iowa; and Carol Rosenow of Omaha, Nebraska. He also has three Grandsons, Dr. Andrew (Mandy) Rosenow, Erick Licht, Michael Rosenow and two Grandaughters Sarah Licht, Dr. Melissa (Stefanos) Delioglou and one Great Grandson (Gavin) and one Great Granddaughter (Deborah).
