Donald Lynn Mundell

Donald L. Mundell, 67, of Atalissa, died on Saturday, October 26, 2013 in Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Family will receive friends Tuesday, October 29, 2013 from 4:00 - 6:30 pm at Fry Funeral Home, Tipton, Iowa immediately followed by the funeral service beginning at 6:30 pm. Don will be cremated following the funeral and will be buried at a later date. Online condolences may be shared at www.fryfuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in his memory. Casual attire is preferred by Don's family. Don was born on November 28, 1945 in Stratton, Colorado and was the son of Homer Claire Mundell and William and Leora Alice Young Rogers. In 1988 Don became the vice president of Home Oil Stations in Ottumwa and then became the General Manager from 1990 to 2005 for the Home Oil Truck Stop in Atalissa, Iowa until his health declined. He loved people and for him work was enjoyable. Don was united in marriage to Jayne Ellen Lovell Spies on June 15, 1996 at the Mt. Zion Church in Tipton. Don is survived by his wife, Jayne Mundell, of Atalissa, Iowa; his children, Alynn R. Mundell of Oskaloosa, Iowa, Aaron R. (Angie Foreman) Mundell of Altoona, Iowa, Andy R. (Jenny) Mundell of West Branch, Iowa, Jacie (John, Sr.) Thomsen of Rochester, Iowa, Jadie Spies of Iowa City, Iowa, Jalie Gilleland of Tipton, Iowa, Dalen (Amanda) Spies of Moscow, Iowa; sisters, Judy (Charlie) Bastian of Cornelius, North Carolina, Evelyn Zimmerman of Colby, Kansas, Marilyn (Ray) Ayer of Montrose, Colorado; sisters-in-law, Deb Mundell of Denver, Colorado and Donna Rogers of Manitou Springs, Colorado; brothers, Jerry (Donna) Mundell, William "Bill" Rogers and James "Jim" Rogers all of Colorado Springs, Colorado; numerous grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Don was preceded in death by his parents, Homer Mundell, Leora Rogers, and William "Bill" Rogers, brothers; Herbert "Cy" Mundell, Walter "Walt" Mundell, Richard "Bones" Mundell and Thomas "Tom" Rogers.
