Donald Robert Sheldon, 79, of Tipton, passed away on Sunday, December, 17, 2017 at University of Iowa Hospital after an extended battle with cancer. Memorial services will be held on Thursday, December 21, 2017, 11:00 a.m. at Fry Funeral Home, Tipton. There will be a time of visitation one hour prior to the service, from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Inurnment will conclude at Clarence City Cemetery. Online condolences may be shared at www.fryfuneralhome.com. Born on March 30, 1938, to George and Nettie (Henkes) Sheldon, in Clarence, he was the youngest of nine children. He graduated from Clarence High School with the class of 1957. Don was united in marriage to Patricia Ann Meiers in Tipton, on September 20, 1959. Don's employment years were spent as a carpenter for his brother, the Carpenters Union (where he was also a member), and Knutson construction. He helped build several of the buildings at the University of Iowa. Don enjoyed fishing and riding his bike, playing cards and gambling at Riverside Casino and fixing things. Surviving Don are his son, Jeff (Deb) Sheldon of Atalissa; daughter, Lisa (Jim) Allen of Tipton; grandchildren, Alyssa (Joe Connors) Sheldon of Atlanta, GA, Andrew Allen of Tipton, Haley (Korey) Miller of West Des Moines and great-grandson, Truett Miller; brother, Gib Sheldon of Clarence and sister, Shirley Blake of Dewitt. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, brothers, George Jr, Clarence "Dale", John and Everett "Dean"; sisters Donna Clemmens and Helen Sheldon; brothers-in-law Ted Sheldon and Richard Blake; sisters-in-law, Rosalie and Phyllis Sheldon, several nephews and one niece.
