Dorothy Mae (Ferguson) Herring

Dorothy Mae Ferguson Herring, 94, of Tipton, drew her final breath early in the morning on Saturday, May 22, 2021 while under the care of the Lisbon Rehabilitation Center in Lisbon, Iowa. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 25, 2021 at 1:00 pm at Fry Funeral Home in Tipton with burial following in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Mechanicsville. Dorothy was born on November 27, 1926 in Linn County, Iowa. She was the daughter of Ralph M. Ferguson and Hazel A (Grassfield) Ferguson. Dorothy graduated from Mechanicsville High School with the Class of 1944. On November 22, 1950, Dorothy was united in marriage to Roland C. Herring in Virginia while he was serving in the military during the Korean War. Dorothy was a farm wife and worked for many years as a secretary for Farm Bureau in Tipton.

Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Jan Dierks of Clarence, Iowa and Susan Wiederhoeft and her husband, Brent of rural Mechanicsville; her son, Bob Herring and his wife, Katie Herring also of rural Mechanicsville; her sister, Lois Rau of Naples, Florida; 9 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husband; granddaughter, Sarah Dierks; grandson, Scott Dierks; and her sister, Ruth Petersen.
