Dorothy Louise Bachman Harmsen, daughter of Arthur William and Irma Mae Severin Bachman, was born October 7, 1920 in Clarence, Iowa. She was a 1938 graduate of Clarence High School and attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, Iowa for 2 years. On November 25, 1945, Dorothy was united in marriage to Harold Henry Harmsen in Clarence, Iowa. She was an elementary teacher and a housewife. Dorothy was baptized in the United Methodist Church in Clarence. She was a member of Red Oak Kings Daughters and an organist for Red Oak Presbyterian Church for 30 years. Dorothy enjoyed reading, sewing, puzzles, music, quilting, cooking, and dancing. Dorothy is loved and survived by her daughters, Julianne (John) Hall of Clinton, Iowa, Carol (John) Crowley of Tipton, Iowa, Marie (Oliver) Brockmeyer of Oxford Junction, Iowa; sons, Larry (Maryann) Harmsen of Coralville, Iowa, Steve (Beverly) Harmsen of Papillion, Nebraska, Dennis Harmsen of Iowa, City, Iowa, Thomas (Teresa) Harmsen of Muscatine, Iowa, Kevin Harmsen of Tipton, Iowa; 12 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, sister, Alberta (John) Decker of Burlington, Iowa; and brother, Ed (Marianne) Bachman of Walcott, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Irma Bachman; husband, Harold Henry Harmsen; brother, John Bachman; and sister, Frances Lemon. Memorials may be made to Iowa City Hospice in memory of Dorothy.
