Edith M. (Clements) Goff

Edith M. (Clements) Goff passed away on, Friday July 5th, 2024 at the age of ninety-eight. Edith was born to Nancy (Reed) Clements and Clarence “Ed” Clements on July 22, 1925, in Buchanan Iowa. Edith grew up on various farms in Cedar County near Tipton and graduated from Tipton High School in 1943.

After High School she was recruited to join the civil service and was trained at the Rock Island Arsenal. She worked at various government locations as a Teletype Operator in Washington DC and Wright Patterson Air Force base in Ohio. There she met a young tech sergeant also from Iowa named Dean Goff and were married in August of 1947. They were stationed at bases in Ohio, Germany, Washington, California, Colorado, and Nebraska. Together they had five children all of whom survive. David Goff, Sebastspol, CA., Dannielle Petrick, Dubuque IA. Deborah Goff, Shreveport, LA., Mathew Goff and wife Tracy, Napa, CA., and Andrew Goff and wife Elizabeth, American Canyon, CA. Edith is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

Edith moved back to Tipton in 1972 to be closer to her family and she last worked at Owens Brush in Iowa City until she retired. She then helped to take care of her mother. Edith enjoyed watching her sons play basketball for the Tipton Tigers and taking care of her flower beds and reading books. Edith moved to Dubuque to live with her daughter when she turned 90 years of age. Edith is survived by a sister Helen Crow of Oxford, IA and several nieces and nephews.

Edith was preceded in death by parents, a sister Kathleen (Smoky) Williams, a brother-in-law Dean Crow two nephews, Stanley Crow and Craig Williams and a son-in-law Philip Petrick.

Services will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church on Monday, July 15, 2024 at 11:00 am with a lunch to be provided after the services at St. Mary’s Hall. Visitation will be held at the church from 10:00 to 11:00 prior to the funeral. Edith will be cremated following the mass and buried in the family plot on Tuesday at St, Mary’s Cemetery in Tipton.
