Edith Marjorie Hass, 96, of Tipton, died Wednesday, March 09, 2011, Mercy Hospital, Iowa. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 12, 2011, 10:30 AM, Fry Funeral Home, Tipton, Pastor Paul Frederiksen officiating. Nancy Hipple is organist. Burial will follow in the Tipton Masonic Cemetery. Casket Bearers are Travis Tauber, Adam Mims, Thomas VandeWeerd, Evan Tauber, Ben Mims, Steve O'Hara. Visitation will be held Friday from 4 - 7 PM at Fry Funeral Home. A memorial has been established in Edith's memory and will be given for local charities. Edith, daughter of William and Leta Shepherd Tittle, was born on May 9, 1914 in Red Oak Twp., Cedar County, Iowa. She attended school in Tipton until the 4th grade when the family moved to Dayton, Twp., near Clarence. She continued at the Clarence School and graduated from high in 1933. At an early age she became a member of the Red Oak Presbyterian Church, being an active member through the years, and served as Clerk of Session for ten years. She was a homemaker and helped on the farm. Edith was united in marriage to Harold William Hass on August 27, 1933, in the Little Brown Church, Nashua, Iowa. They farmed northwest of Tipton for thirty-eight years. She joined the Red Oak King's Daughters in October 1938, and was an active member as long as she was able, holding offices in the Circle, County, and Jr. Director within the state. She was a member of the Tipton Woman's Club for over forty years, and was involved in the publishing of their cook book, "How Iowa Cooks." She was a former member of the Red Oak Presbyterian Church and after the church closed she became a member of the United Methodist Church of Tipton. She enjoyed her family and friends and liked flowers, crocheting, quilting and traveling, especially the cruise trips. In January 1977, Edith and Harold retired from farming and moved into their new home in Tipton. Edith is survived by her son, Richard, and wife Karen, Hass of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; daughter, Lorraine, and husband, Frank Tauber of Iowa City, Iowa; 5 grandchildren, Dawn Mims, Tami VandeWeerd and Jill O'Hara; 2 grandsons, Travis and Evan Tauber; 5 great grandchildren, Kelsey, Adam and Nicholas Mims, Kiley and Colin VandeWeerd; sister, Wilma Fisher of Mechanicsville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold.
