Edna Lucile Wiese

March 17, 1917 — March 2, 2013

Graveside services for Edna Lucile Barrett Wiese, 95, of Bennett who died Saturday, March 2, 2013 will be held Thursday, March 7, 2013 at 11:30 am at Inland Cemetery, Bennett , with Rev. Tommi Boeder officiating. There will be a luncheon held at the Bennett American Legion following the graveside service. A memorial has been established in her memory. Edna was born on Saint Patrick's Day, March 17, 1917 in Bennett, the only child of Lillian, a homemaker and Clement Clifford, a carpenter. Edna attended Bennett schools and was a member of Bennett's first and undefeated Women's basketball team from 1931-32. She graduated from high school in 1934 and met her husband to be, Delbert Wiese. They were married on Easter Day, 1938, at the Little Brown Church in Vale at Nashua. Edna and Delbert purchased their own farm in Bennett where they raised their two sons, Lee and David. Edna helped her husband with farm chores in addition to "running" the household. She could often be seen during harvest driving the hay wagon and stacking bales. Her leisure time was spent knitting and solving crossword puzzles. After the children were grown, Edna and Delbert spent their winters in Arizona and summers in Bennett. After Delbert passed away in 1972, Edna moved from the farm to a house in Bennett. She wrote "One Man's Story," a piece about her Father's life, which was published in the book "Bennett, Iowa and Inland Township-A History" and contributed several favorite recipes that were included in the Bennett Iowa Centennial "Century of Cooking" book. Edna is loved and survived by her sons, Lee (Doris) of Upper Nyack, New York, David of Tipton; and grandson, Jason of Crocker, Missouri.
