Elaine was born on September 24, 1921, in Cedar County to Galen and Vella (Walter) Hillyer. On November 24, 1938, she married Jerald W. Nebergall, they were divorced in 1964. Elaine worked hard for many years on the farm and also enjoyed working in many different cities in the area including Davenport, Rock Island, West Liberty, Wilton and Iowa City. She was a member of the South Bethel Methodist Church, taught Sunday School and Bible School, a past member of the woman's Society of Christian Service Organization and the Fidelis Circle of King's Daughters. Elaine enjoyed gardening, baking, sewing, writing letters and reading but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family. She treasured life in general and all of her memories from her childhood days on the farm and working in the city. She enjoyed all the family birthday parties, Christmas gatherings, and family picnics and reunions. She loved to have you stop by for a meal and always wanted to send something home with you. She loved having company or getting phone calls and she loved to tell stories from her past.
