Eleanor (Ruth) Ann Droll

July 13, 1927 — June 25, 2016

Eleanor Ann (Ruth) Droll, 88, of Clarence went to her final resting place on June 25, 2016 after a short illness. Funeral Mass services will be held at 10am on Tuesday, June 28th at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Tipton, officiated by the Father Richard Okumu. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Tipton. Friends and family may call Monday, June 27th from 4 to 7pm at Fry Funeral Home in Tipton, with Rosary starting at 3:45pm. Eleanor was born on the home farm in Riverside, Iowa on July 13, 1927 to Herman and Bertha (Bulger) Ruth. She attended St. Mary's High School in Riverside and Marycrest College in Davenport. After attaining her teaching certificate she taught grade school in Hills and Kalona, Iowa. Some say that Walt was the "teacher's pet" and as most know, she was a master at correcting everyone's grammar. Eleanor was united in marriage to Walter Joseph Droll at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Riverside on October 11, 1948. They moved and later purchased the Henry VonMuenster farm in rural Stanwood where they raised their seven children. Eleanor was an avid gardener and could spot a weed a mile away. She also enjoyed knitting, swimming, quilting, and was an active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Tipton, the Cedar County Democrats and the Council of Catholic Women, Davenport Diocese. Walt and Eleanor spent many years visiting with family and dancing. They definitely were dancers! Eleanor considered her grandchildren and great-grandchildren to be her greatest blessings. Eleanor is survived by her husband Walt; four daughters, Janet (Gary) Pasold, Clarence; JoEllen (Mark) Cook, Mechanicsville, Julie (Mike) Tharp, Lowden, and Jacqueline (Scott) Bohlen, Durant; three sons, Jerry (Mary) Droll, Clarence, John (Deb) Droll, Ridgedale, MO and James (Kay) Droll, Stanwood. Also surviving are three sisters, Rita Jenn, Hills, Janelle Marek, Kalona and Mary Marek, Hills; three brothers, Robert (Doris) Ruth, Hills, Leo (Shirley) Ruth, Ely, and Eugene (Doris) Ruth, Riverside; 17 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Paul, Donald and Richard Ruth, and one grandson, Jayce Droll In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to St. Mary's Church, Tipton. The family would like to thank the Clarence Senior Living Center and Hospice of Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids for their compassionate care. Eleanor was a genuinely beautiful and giving person and will be missed by many family members and numerous friends, especially her dear caregivers at the Clarence Nursing Home and Clarence Assisted Living. In Eleanor's honor, if you choose, please wear a touch of purple, which was her favorite color.
