Eleanor Catherine (Long) Thoeming, 97, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at University of Iowa Health Care in Iowa City, surrounded by her family.
Eleanor was born July 18, 1929, in Clarence, Iowa, to Ira Belle Long and Florence (Shriver) Long. She attended school in Clarence, graduating in 1946. Eleanor married Wilbert “Webb” Thoeming on March 17, 1951, in Maquoketa, Iowa.
Eleanor was a member of First United Church of Christ in Tipton, where she served as church secretary for 30 years. She was also a member of the Cedar County Piecemakers and enjoyed hand quilting.
Eleanor is survived by her daughters, Vicky Evans of Marion, Iowa, and Sandra (Terry) Toal of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her sisters, Alberta Meyer, Arlene Leinbaugh, and Beverly Steinke; her brother, Elroy Long; and her son-in-law, Randy Evans.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, September 29, 2026, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Fry Funeral Home in Tipton. Her funeral service will be held Wednesday, September 30, at 11:00 a.m. at First United Church of Christ in Tipton. A luncheon will follow the service, with burial afterward at Massillon Cemetery.
