Emma Evelyn (Rife) Frederick

Emma Evelyn (Rife, Hayes) Frederick, 95 years young, of Leavenworth, Kansas was born on January 25, 1927 in Rochester Iowa and passed away on Sunday, February 20, 2022 in Leavenworth, Kansas. Graveside committal services will be held on Saturday, February 26, 2022 at 10:00 am in the Shawver Cemetery, Cedar Bluffs, Iowa.  A celebration of life will be held at a later date.  Condolences may be shared online at www.fryfuneralhome.com or mailed to 27703 187th St Leavenworth, KS 66048. Emma was the daughter of Edmund James Rife and Myrtle Lagina (Everett) Rife.   She was married to Delbert Henry Hayes for 25 years and they divorced.  She later married the love of her life and best friend Melvin Carl Frederick.  She is survived by her daughter Darlene (Hayes) Packwood (William); her grandchildren Amara Packwood-Ponton (James), and Tristan Packwood of Leavenworth, Kansas.  She was preceded in death by her children Dale Delbert Hayes and Wayne Henry Hayes, her husband, and her parents. Emma enjoyed traveling, garage sales, dancing, playing pinochle, and being with family.  Her life journey included employment at the Rock Island Arsenal during WWII, operating the Centerdale store and post office, working at the VA hospital in Iowa City, working for Owens Brush, and her favorite position during the past 35 years as a homemaker for her daughter and family, traveling with them to Germany and several locations throughout the US.  Emma was proficient in American Sign Language and some German.
