Eric Lawrence Kurtenbach

Eric Lawerence Kurtenbach, 61, of Lisbon, Iowa, died Monday, March 9, 2026, at his home.

Eric was born September 26, 1964, in New Hampton, Iowa, the son of Larry O. Kurtenbach and Jeanette E. (Winter) Kurtenbach. He was a 1983 graduate from Waukon High School and later worked many years as a millwright and laborer. Eric was a talented welder who could repair or rework almost anything placed in front of him, and he took pride in being someone who could figure things out and get things working again.

Growing up, Eric had a natural feel for machines, animals, and the outdoors. He was known for riding motorcycles with skill and confidence and could just as easily jump on a horse to help chase cattle back to the farm. A true jack-of-all-trades, he was rarely without a project and was always working on something.

Eric had a quiet nature and blended in easily wherever he went, but those who knew him best appreciated his unique sense of humor and the big heart behind it. He cared deeply for his family and especially enjoyed time with his nieces and nephews. Eric also had a special place in his heart for his beloved St. Bernard, Zoey, who passed away in 2018.

Eric is survived by his mother, Jeanette E. Kurtenbach of La Joya, Texas; two brothers, Joel Kurtenbach of Lisbon, IA and Lee Kurtenbach Mechanicsville, Iowa; three sisters, Nancy (Gary) Messner of Caledonia, Minnesota; Lora (Roger) Knott of Lansing, Peggy Donohoe of Lisbon, Iowa. He is also remembered by his nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Larry O. Kurtenbach.

Private memorial services will be held at a later date.
