Fred Henry Horstmann

Funeral services for Fred Henry Horstmann, Sr., 85, of Bennett, who died Friday, June 29, 2012, will be held Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at 10:30 am at Fry Funeral Home, Tipton. Visitation will be held on Monday, July 2, 2012 from 4-7:00 pm at Fry Funeral Home, Tipton. Burial will follow in the Inland Cemetery in Bennett. Military honors will be presented by the Bennett American Legion. Memorials may be made to the Bennett Fire Department or the Bennett American Legion in his memory. Fred Henry Horstmann was born August 13, 1926, the son of Fred Henry and Elizabeth Emma Meyer Horstman in Clarence, Iowa. Fred served in the United States Army from 1944-1946. He was united in marriage to Melba Ann Motz at Camp Fannin in Tyler, Texas on February 13, 1945. Fred was employed as a truck driver for Western Transport for 17 years and later at Quaker Oats. He was a member of the Bennett Volunteer Fireman for 30 + years as well as a member of the Tipton Moose, Bennett American Legion, Tipton VFW and the Million Mile Club. Fred is survived by his wife, Melba of Bennett; daughters, Patricia (Marlin) Hillyer of Bennett, Susan (Gilbert) Pewe of Wheatland; sons, Micheal (Bev) Horstmann of Bennett, Fred (Karis) Horstmann, III of Bennett, Iowa; 11grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and one on the way; 4 great-great-grandchildren and one on the way; sister, Dorothy Burkhardt of Bettendorf brother, Edward Horstmann of Davenport. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Emma Ewoldt, Marie English, Barbara Meyer; and brother, Frank Horstmann.
