December 25, 1919 — August 8, 2014

Freda A. Chambliss, 94, died Friday, August 8, 2014 at Cedar Manor Nursing Home in Tipton, Iowa. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at 10:0 am at the South Bethel Methodist Church on the site of the Cedar County Historical Center in Tipton. Freda Augusta Chambliss, daughter of Charles Anthony and Nettie May Nebergall was born on December 25, 1919. She attended country school and graduated from Tipton High School in 1939. On August 7, 1939 she married Lester R. Chambliss at the South Bethel Methodist Church. Their son, Steven, was born three years later. Her abiding faith sustained her in a life of commitment and service to her church, her family, and all those around her during her 94 blessed years. She was accepting of everyone and always extended her love to them. As the youngest of eight children she cared deeply for her siblings and their families. She was a warm and gracious volunteer at Cedar Manor for over 30 years. Along with the other faithful worshippers she was committed to the preservation of the South Bethel Church. The move of the church from its rural setting to the Historical Center site was the fulfillment of her faith and commitment to the legacy of the Church and a tribute to all who worshipped there with her throughout their lives. Freda is survived by her family, Steven and Dena Chambliss, granddaughter Necia and great-granddaughter Ava Chambliss, granddaughter Stephanie Gaffin and her husband Mark, and great grandson Logan and great granddaughter Sydney Gaffin. She is also survived by her faithful companion and dearest friend Cecil Mathias and his entire extended family. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and their families. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester; her parents; her sisters, Anna and Irma Nebergall and Eleanor Purviance; her brothers, William, Loyd, Verl, and Jerald; and one nephew, Richard Nebergall. A memorial fund has been established for the continued preservation of the South Bethel Church. Online condolences may be shared at www.fryfunerahome.com.
