Gary Allen Hartig, resident of Central City, Iowa, formerly of Tipton, Iowa and Anamosa, Iowa, died on Wednesday, April 27, 2022 at his home in Central City. Arrangements were made through Fry Funeral Home, Tipton, Iowa. A visitation for family and friends will be held 5:00 – 7:00 p.m, Thursday, May 5th at the Fry Funeral Home in Tipton. A private family memorial service will be held on May 6, 2022. Memorials may be made to the Anamosa State Penitentiary ERC or the Amateur Radio Emergency Services in Muscatine. Surviving Gary are his wife of 16 years, Dawn (Jones) Hartig of Central City, Iowa; two sons, Rob (Michele) Hartig of Tipton, Iowa and Garrett (Britt) Hartig of Clarence, Iowa; three daughters, Casey (Aaron) McDowell of North Carolina, Crystal Anderson of Olin, Iowa and Candice Wyrick of Davenport, Iowa; two sisters, Janice (Mike) Welch of Austin, TX and Bev (Pat) Lawrence of Toddville, Iowa; and ten grandchildren. Gary was born July 2, 1956 in DeWitt, Iowa to Robert and Lois (Yock) Hartig. Gary graduated from Tipton High School in 1975. Gary spent his entire working career in law enforcement. First as a police officer in Tipton Iowa, later as police chief in Mechanicsville, Iowa and finally as a guard at the Anamosa State Penitentiary. He married Jacqueline Dawn Jones on March 17, 2006 in Las Vegas, Nevada. He enjoyed ham radios and served as the president of the Muscatine Amateur Radio Emergency Service President. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and enjoyed traveling, mostly by car. He set a goal to travel to all fifty of the United States and was able to make it to all but three. He had a special affection for his fur babies. Gary was preceded in death by his parents and fur baby, Wally.
