George Victor Stepper, Sr.

George Victor Stepper Sr., 73, of Tipton, Iowa, formerly of Jackson, Michigan, passed away unexpectedly on January 12, 2025, at the University of Iowa, after falling at his home. Fry Funeral Home, Tipton, IA, has been entrusted with his care. Services in Michigan will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, January 17, 2025 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in Jackson, MI.

George was born on Valentine’s Day in 1951 in Hakodate, Hokkaido, Japan, to Victor Clifford and Cheicko “Betty” (Yamada) Stepper. When George was seven, he came to the United States to join the rest of his family. George was united in marriage to Joanne Mary Yakovich in Seattle, Washington, on June 2, 1973. From that union, they were blessed with seven children: James, Dominic, George, Mary, Leslie, Victor, and Dean.

George attended Jackson Community College in Jackson, Michigan, where he earned his professional certificates in Engineering, which was his springboard to his career as a Quality Control Engineer.

George was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served the church in many capacities over the years. He also was a proud Scoutmaster for Boy Scouts, providing direction, coaching, and support. When he wasn’t telling his many stories, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, often playing chess together.

George's life was a testament to his loving and helpful nature. He spent seven years in Japan, 29 years in Seattle, Washington, 37 years in Jackson, Michigan, and a short period of time in Tipton to be closer to his children. His journey through these places was marked by his dedication to his family, his faith, and his community.

George is survived by his loving wife, Joanne Stepper; children, James Stepper, Dominic Stepper, George Stepper, Mary (Mark) Stewart, Leslie (James) Stepper-Smith, Victor (Catherine) Stepper, and Dean Stepper; sisters, Nancy Hefty and Jeanne Howard; brothers, Lester Stepper and James Stepper; grandchildren, Jillian, Brent, Tony, Zane, Isaiah, Seth, Conner, Mason, Tanner, Kaitlyn, Lesley, Joshua, Evan, Karter and Adalyn; and his great-grandson, Thomas. He was preceded in death by his parents.
