Gordon Kirk Bixby died at his home on May 21, 2004. He was born in 1918 to Gordon and Ida Bixby in Shellsburg, Iowa. Krik worked at Sanitary Dairy and later as a Supervisor for Peter Pan Bakery in Cedar Rapids. He married Joan Garrett in 1944. In 1959, Krik and Joan moved to Tipton where they owned and operated the Maid-Rite Cafe and Motel for 10 years. He later owned and operated the Tipton Dairy Queen for several years. During this time Kirk was an active board member of the Tipton County Club and Cedar Manor Nursing Home. He also served several terms as a city councilman and six years as mayor. He and Joan were responsible for establishing the Cub Scout program in Tipton in 1960. He enjoyed family fishing trips at Gold Pines, Ont. Canada, house boating on the Missippi at Guttenberg and winter vacationing in Mexico and South Padre Island, Texas. Kirk is survived by his wife, Joan; sons, Pat, with his wife, Peg, of Tipton and their daughters, Stephanie, of Tipton, and Becky Anderson, and her husband, Marshall, with their daughter, Hannah, living in Grand Prairie, Texas; Chris, and his wife, Susan, of Corpus Christi, Texas; Tim, and his wife, Gail, with their sons, Jeremy and Benjamin, of Roseville, California.
