Gustave "Richard" Ohrt

Gustave "Richard" Ohrt, 85 of Buchanan, Iowa, passed away on Sunday November 6, 2016 at V.A. Medical Center, Iowa City. Friends and family may gather on Friday, November 11 from 4:00-7:00 pm at Fry Funeral Home, Tipton for a time of visitation. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 12, 10:30 am also at Fry's. Interment will follow at Woodbridge Cemetery, Buchanan with full Military honors. A memorial fund in Rich's honor has been established. Online condolences may be shared at www.fryfuneralhome.com. Rich was born on September 9, 1931 in Rochester, Iowa to Gustave and Emma (Schroeder) Ohrt. He attended Country Schools in Cedar County. Rich proudly served his country in the U.S. Marines from 1951-1954. Shortly after his Honorable Discharge, he married the love of his life, Beverly Bair in West Branch on January 30, 1955. They have resided in Buchanan where they have raised their three children: Maletta, Monte and Marnetta. Rich's years of employment were spent performing many duties, including mechanic, machine operator, farming and tree trimming. He was a member of the Tipton V.F.W. In Rich's younger years, he enjoyed singing and playing his guitar as well as several outdoor activities. He also enjoyed playing cards, (euchre and pinochle) racing and cutting wood. Family was Rich's pride and joy, especially his grandchildren. Rich is survived by his wife, three children, Maletta (Gary) Beuter of Tipton, Monte (Melinda) Ohrt of Riverside and Marnetta (Todd) Seastrom of Wellman; sisters Wiona Lange of Canton, Iowa, Paula Hubler of Mechanicsville; brother Donald (Judy) Ohrt of Wilton; nine grandchildren: Heather (Mike) Schnoebelen, Shannon (Tim) Krauss, Brianne (James) Magill, Christina (Craig) Anderson, Alan Ohrt, Kevin (Jennifer) Rodgers, Andrew (Morgan) Rodgers, Peggy Shall, Jaime (Zach) Brothers and eighteen great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, twelve siblings, many nieces and nephews and in-laws.
