Funeral services for Harold William Heick, 82, Tulsa, OK. and formerly of Tipton, were held on Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2007 at Wesley Smith Funeral Home in Sapulpa, OK., with interment at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, 2008 at Trinity Lutheran church in Tipton. The family will greet friends at a luncheon in the parish hall immediately following the service. Mr. Heick died Dec. 13 at Maplewood Care Center in Tulsa, OK. following a lingering illness. He and his wife, Merle, moved to Greentree Retirement Center in Sand Springs, OK. in June 2007 to be near Merle's son and family. The son of William Gerald and Bertha Siemsen Heick, was born January 13, 1925 near Bennett. He graduated from Bennett High School in 1942. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater, obtaining the rank of corporal. He married Rosemyrta Crispin on Jan. 26, 1947 and they had 3 children. Mr. Heick worked for several years at Benteco Grocery in Tipton and then began operating Heick's Standard Service on North Cedar Street in Tipton, adjacent to the Maid-Rite Cafe and party room, owned by Rosemyrta's parents. She died in 1962. Mr. Heick married Merle Callahan Woodford on Dec. 18, 1965 and her 2 sons joined the business. Following the sale of the gas station in 1974, Mr. Heick worked for K and K Farm Equipment in Tipton and then for auto dealerships in Tipton and Iowa City, both before and after he and his wife moved to Iowa City in 1976. While a Tipton resident, Mr. Heick was active in community, church and civic affairs. He served several terms as a Tipton City Council member and was a active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, serving in numerous council leadership activities over the years. He was also a member of the Tipton Lions Club, serving in various offices, including president in 1962-63. He was also active in the VFW.
