Helen Kathryne (Hammond) Paul

Helen Kathryne Paul, 93, of Tipton, entered eternity early Saturday morning, July 6, 2024 while under the care of the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am and a Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, August 26, 2024 at the Trinity Lutheran Church. Charline Thumm will be officiating. Helen, daughter of Robert Charles Hammond and Ruth Naomi Dege Hammond, was born on July 1, 1931 in Davenport, Iowa. Helen was raised in Marion and graduated from Marion High School with the Class of 1949. Helen was married to Arthur Edward Paul on July 15, 1951 in Marion, they later divorced.  Helen started out being a telephone operator in Marion when operators would ask “number please” and say “thank you”. She moved to Mechanicsville and worked as an Avon Lady and later moved to Tipton to be closer to her family where she would begin sewing and working as an office worker and a dispatcher for the Cedar County Sheriff’s Office. After her retirement she started her In-Home Sewing Business, made Christmas Stockings for the Military and started sewing pillow cases for children that didn’t have a quality home life. Helen was a faithful member of the Trinity Lutheran Church where she gave of her time and talents for many years.

Helen is survived and blessed with a son, Chuck (wife Marilyn) of Tipton; and a daughter, Deb Zilinkas who lives in Indiana. She has seven grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. Helen is also survived by her special friends and caregivers, Nina Tomas of Tipton and Linda Kraklio of Wilton.
