Helen Louise (Sterner)Lendt, 92, formerly of Lowden and Tipton, died peacefully on Tuesday morning in the Simpson Memorial Home in West Liberty, Iowa. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 8, 2017 at 10:30 am, St. Paul Lutheran Church in Bennett, with Rev. William Traphagan officiating. After the luncheon at the Bennett Legion Hall burial will be held in the Oakdale Cemetery, Wilton. Visitation will be held on Friday, July 7th from 4:00 - 7:00 pm at Fry Funeral Home, Tipton. You may also share your online condolences and photographs at www.fryfuneralhome.com. In memorial has been established for the Bennett Ambulance and the Alzheimer's Association. Helen was born near Wilton, in Muscatine County on December 20, 1924 and was the daughter of Lester Elroy and Edna Louise (Marolf) Sterner. She graduated from the Atalissa High School in 1943 and completed her Bachelor of Arts Degree at the University of Northern Iowa. Helen was united in marriage to Raymond Ulyssis Lendt on June 3, 1950 in the Atalissa Lutheran Church and they became members of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Bennett. Helen was a school teacher and taught school for 5 years in West Branch School and 25 years in the Bennett School. During her life Helen enjoyed gardening, oil painting, canning, various card games, traveling, family and singing old songs as well as being a school teacher. She loved her church where she taught Sunday school, Vacation Bible School and Confirmation Classes. Helen is survived by her two children, daughter, Wendy (Larry) McDevitt of Maquoketa, Iowa and son, Kevin (Patricia) Lendt of Atalissa, Iowa; sisters, Betty Dollar of Muscatine, Iowa and Shari Phillips of Conesville, Iowa; 2 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband (Raymond) and 3 brothers (Leo, Bill and Al).
