Helen Katherine Schmidt

Funeral services for Helen Katherine Schmidt, 95, formerly of Bennett who died Monday, October 24, 2011 will be held Thursday, October 27, 2011 at 11:00 am at the Peace Church of Christ United, Bennett with Pastor Barbra Keiper officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00 am prior to the funeral service. Burial will follow in the Inland Cemetery. A memorial has been established in her memory. Helen was born January 21, 1916, in Bennett, Iowa, the daughter of Ferdinand and Louisa Marie Lunow Sieck. While growing up Helen attended school in a rural one room school house in Cedar County. She was united in marriage to Henry Schmidt. Together they farmed the Bennett area, retiring from farming in 1970. Helen was a member of the Peace Church of Christ United in Bennett; Women's Fellowship; VFW Auxiliary, and Senior Dining Center. She was awarded Senior Citizen of the Year in Cedar County and was a beloved mother. Helen is loved and survived by her daughters, Janice Schmidt of Davenport, Iowa, Betty Wilken of Sun City, Arizona, Nancy Mumm of Lakeland, Florida; sons, Jim Schmidt of Maysville, Iowa, David Schmidt of Davenport, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; and sister, Esther Hillyer of Tipton, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Henry in 1984; brother, Russell; sisters, Augusta Behrens, Viola Behrens, and Florence Hillyer.
