Henry Edward Martin, Jr. passed from this life on Sunday morning, October 5, 2025, while under the care of Edgewood Convalescent Home in Edgewood, Iowa.
You are invited to share and celebrate his life on Thursday, October 9 at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Tipton. Inurnment, with full military honors, will take place at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City.
In lieu of flowers, a general memorial fund has been established, with proceeds being sent to 103 Meadow Lane, Tipton, Iowa 52772.
Henry, son of Henry Edward Martin, Sr. and Reba Rose Goodman Martin, was born February 2, 1947, in Gregory, South Dakota. He graduated from Bassett High School and served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. On January 18, 1975, he was united in marriage to Julia Diers in Bassett, Nebraska.
Henry had a diverse work career, beginning at the Boys Reformatory School in Nebraska. He later moved to Durant, Iowa, where he worked as a milk tester, and eventually served as a jailor for 15 years at the Cedar County Jail in Tipton.
Henry and Julia were faithful members of Trinity Lutheran Church in Tipton. He enjoyed gardening, especially growing pink roses, and volunteered with community meals and the mobile food pantry.
Those left to mourn his passing include his sons, John Martin of Des Moines, Iowa, and Paul (Sara) Martin of Tipton, Iowa; sisters, Lois Kay Martin and Betty Jo Martin; and brothers, Jim Martin and Larry Martin.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Julia Ann Martin, on November 28, 2019; and siblings, Anita Watermann, Kenny Martin, and Linda Drobny.
