Ina Ella Hack

Ina Ella Hack, 102, of Tipton, met our Heavenly Father on Saturday, December 14, 2024, surrounded by the love of her family and friends. In honor of her life, visitation will be held at the First United Church of Christ on December 18, 2024, beginning at 4:30 PM. The funeral service will take place the following day, December 19, 2024, at 10:00 AM at the same venue. Following the service, a graveside ceremony will be conducted at Tipton Masonic Cemetery at 11:00 AM, where she will be laid to rest. A luncheon to celebrate Ina’s life will follow at 11:45 AM at the First United Church of Christ.

Ina was born on February 22, 1922, near Lowden, Iowa, the second daughter of William C. and Louise (Schmidt) Kahl, and was brought into the Kingdom of God through the sacrament of Holy Baptism on April 6, 1922, at Zion Evangelical Church by Rev. Theodore Van Dyck. She grew up working on her family's farm and graduated from country school #9 in Cedar County. Ina confirmed her baptismal vows on April 14, 1935, by Pastor Fred J. Abele at Zion United Church of Christ in Lowden, where she later founded the Ladies Evening Circle.

Ina was united in marriage to Elmer Hack on July 22, 1945, when he returned from 4 1/2 years of service in WWII. They farmed near Lowden, Wheatland, and Clarence before purchasing their own farm near West Branch. Ina's greatest joy was becoming a mother to her children, Stanley and Schelly, and later a grandmother to Sean and Rebecca Odeen. Elmer and Ina moved to Tipton in 1986.

Always happy to be involved in community organizations and activities, Ina was best known for her delicious and beautifully decorated cakes that were centerpieces for hundreds of weddings, birthdays, and other special occasions for 66 years. She was a gracious hostess and a wonderful cook and considered herself a "domestic engineer." Ina always had a smile, and usually a joke or a great story to make others laugh. She spread joy and sunshine wherever she went. She loved going to dances with her husband, golfing with friends, bowling, riding her bicycle around town, and making people happy.

Ina was a member, former Deacon, Elder, and council member of First UCC in Tipton, member and past president of two local American Legion Auxiliary posts, a Cedar County 4-H leader, member of the National and local T.T.T. Society, Cedar County Farm Bureau Women's group, Red Hats, Child Conservation, Martha Circle, Searchlight, National and Eastern Iowa Ex-POW wives, and several Bridge clubs.

Survivors include her son, Stanley Hack of West Branch; daughter and husband, Schelly and Ed Odeen of Mesa, AZ; grandchildren Sean Odeen and wife, Laura, of Clive, IA, and Rebecca and husband, Nicholas Harris, of Albuquerque, NM; a sister, Bethel Hagen of Sioux Falls, SD; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Elmer; her parents; brother Fred Kahl; sister Helen Knoche and their spouses; brother-in-law Dr. Bruce C. Hagen; and nephews Daniel Hagen and Don Meier.
