Funeral mass for James (Jim) Ellis Moore, 94, will be held at 10:30am on Friday, January 15th, 2016, at St. Mary's Church in Tipton, Iowa. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00pm on Thursday, January 14th at Fry Funeral Home in Tipton. There will be a Parish Vigil service beforehand, at 3:30pm, which is open to the public. Pall bearers are Ian Suchomel, Eric and Tom Wilson, Todd Elgas, Tim Flaherty, and Jim Suchomel. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, Tipton, following mass. Jim died Tuesday morning, January 5th, 2016, at White Pine Assisted Living and Memory Care, in Blaine, Minnesota. He was moved up there from Prairie Hills Assisted Living, in Tipton, on September 1st, 2015, to be closer to his family, but continued believing in his heart that he was still in Tipton, a place he loved dearly. The son of Lewis and Margaret (Frink) Moore, he was born on March 17th, 1921, in Fairfield Township, rural Tipton. He grew up on a farm north of Tipton, attended Prairie Flower Rural Grade School, and graduated from Tipton High School in 1938. He attended Coe College in Cedar Rapids for two years, and American Institute of Commerce in Davenport for one year. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1942, serving overseas on the USS Columbia, in the South Pacific, until his discharge in 1945. During that time, he married Susan Lucile Fagan, in Tipton, Iowa, on March 5th, 1944. Together they raised four children, Richard, Linda, Mary Anne and Colleen. Upon returning from military service, he began working at the Tipton State Bank as a bookkeeper, and retired in 1986 after serving 18 years as President and Chairman of the Board. His wife, Lucile, passed away in February of 1972. He was later remarried to Phyllis Meyer Conrad, in 1973, with whom he was with for 30 years until her death in 2003. His children were his pride and joy. He enjoyed visits to see them as well as his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was busy throughout his life as a member of St. Mary's Church, Rotary, VFW, American Legion, Lions Club, and Cedar County Fair Board. He enjoyed playing cards, reading, visiting with friends and gardening. He is survived by his daughter Colleen (Ralph) Wilson of Baudette, Minnesota. Grandchildren: Ian (Jennifer) Suchomel, Eric (Rachel) Wilson, Tom (Monica) Wilson, Dani (Todd) Elgas, and Caite (Tim) Flaherty; great grandchildren: Emma and Charlie Suchomel, Charlotte, Camila, Violet, and Gabriela Wilson, Tyler and Addison Elgas and Mora Flaherty; step-grandchildren, Garrett and Karsen Elgas; son-in-law, Jim Suchomel; daughter-in-law, Evelyn Moore; niece-in-law, Donna Gault and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, both spouses, his son Richard, daughters Linda and Mary, a half-sister, Berdina Gault, a nephew, Franklin Gault, and daughter-in-law, Ginny (Anderson) Moore. A memorial fund has been established in his memory. Proceeds may be directed to Cedar Manor Nursing Home and Cedar County Senior Center.
