Jeanne Santa Cruz 1948- 2024
Jeanne Virginia (Swan) Santa Cruz, 75, of Dallas went peacefully home to
God on Wednesday, July 17th, 2024 after a brief illness.
Jeanne was born on November 28th, 1948 in Iowa City, Iowa, to Arnold
and Eleanor Swan. She grew up with her brother David on their farm near
Tipton, Iowa, and graduated from Tipton High School in 1967. Jeanne went
on to obtain a bachelor's degree in French from Central College in Pella,
Iowa and then completed a master's degree from Southern Illinois University
Carbondale in teaching English as a Second Language (ESL).
From there, Jeanne moved to Dallas, Texas to teach ESL. After teaching
ESL, Jeanne spent the rest of her career working at the Texas A&M
(formerly Baylor) College of Dentistry, doing editorial work on their grants
and guiding department operations. She met Humberto Santa Cruz and they
were married in 1981. Jeanne and Beto had two children together, Paul and
Jane. The later divorced.
Jeanne was a faithful parishioner at St. Monica Catholic Church of Dallas
for many years. She greatly enjoyed singing with their choir. Jeanne was
also an avid baseball and basketball fan and enjoyed watching the Texas
Rangers and the Dallas Mavericks. Making summer trips back to the Iowa
"homeland" was always a highlight for Jeanne. She was a caring colleague,
friend, and mother with a great sense of humor. And she always appreciated
a good glass of wine on Friday evenings.
Jeanne was welcomed into Heaven by her parents, Arnold and Eleanor
Swan and many aunts and uncles. She is deeply missed by her children,
Paul Santa Cruz of Dallas and Jane Santa Cruz (Andres Ramirez Aguilar)
also of Dallas. Additionally, she is greatly missed by her older brother,
David Swan of Tipton, Iowa, niece Kathryn Kummer (John) of Forest Lake,
Minnesota and two great nephews, Michael and Gabe.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation and
thanks for the love, friendship and support given by everyone.
A reception will be held in the fellowship room at the
First United Church of Christ following the memorial service.
Final internment rites will conclude in the Tipton Masonic Cemetery.
